Hammer Down
The Movie
Hammer Down is a supernatural comedy-drama about Hamish “Hammer” Downing, a 43-year-old contractor, former ’90s alt-rock frontman, and reigning king of Indianapolis home renovation. While auditioning for an HGTV pickup, Hammer dies saving his cameraman from a collapsing crawlspace and wakes up in The Depot, a celestial dispatch center run by Guardian Angels who are no longer very good at their jobs.

The angels have launched a pilot program called Mortal Guardians, sending recently deceased humans back into the world to help others find their way. Hammer, who died a hero on the same day he was still trying to hide an affair from his wife, becomes Case File #001.
His first assignment is himself. His second is his wife, who is about to discover the secret he thought he had taken to the grave. His third, fourth, and fifth are the three kids who do not know what he was, do not know what he is now, and cannot see him for what he really is. Only Hobo, the family dog, can.
At its heart, Hammer Down is about the work of becoming good after you have already been bad, while a fractured family tries to keep standing as the ground shifts underneath them. Warm, funny, spiritual without being preachy, and grounded in family chaos, the series lives somewhere between Modern Family and Six Feet Under.

He wakes in The Depot, a place between life and death, where he is forced to confront the choices that defined his life. Because of his final act of selflessness, Hammer is given a trial opportunity to return to Earth under the supervision of a Guardian. His assignment is simple in theory and nearly impossible in practice: repair what he has broken before his time runs out.
Back on Earth, Hammer finds his family in crisis. His affair has been exposed, his partner Angela is devastated, his children are facing their own struggles, and the people around him begin to question whether he survived the accident unchanged.
Throughout the series, Hammer is confronted by mysterious supernatural Boxes that only he can see. Each Box represents a failure, relationship, or unresolved choice from his past. The objects, creatures, and manifestations that emerge from them remain until Hammer understands and resolves the underlying issue.
Season One follows Hammer as he tries to rebuild trust with Angela, reconnect with his children, repair damaged friendships, and understand what love actually requires of him. At the same time, his Guardian, Ronnie G, guides him through the increasingly difficult tests that will determine his ultimate fate.
Built around a five-season arc of Change, Love, and Balance, Hammer Down explores whether one man’s transformation can alter not only his family’s future, but the balance between Heaven, Earth, and Hell.
